General - Development of a Building Automation Laboratory

The attached paper by Mr. William Hutzel, an Assistant Professor in the Purdue University Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology, describes how they built a student laboratory utilizing Automated Logic controls. In addition to dramatically improving the performance of the environmental chamber used to study HVAC components, the new controls gave the students an opportunity to study state-of-the-art direct digital controls. This paper was presented at the 1998 annual conference of the American Society of Engineering Education. Many thanks to Mr Hutzel for allowing us to post this on our web site.
